Car enthusiast, Boris, had taken time off from employment to restore a classic Valiant Charger. Then Boris’s mother became unwell and he became her primary carer.
When Boris’s mother passed away, he was connected to atWork Australia for support to find employment.
Still navigating his grief, Boris wasn’t sure which direction to take when returning to work.
“At Boris’s initial appointment he was still grieving and unsure of what direction to take, after some thought, Boris identified he would like to study and is currently studying tourism,” said Job Coach, Sanah.
“My Job Coach, Sanah, was my first point of contact with atWork Australia. At a difficult time in my life, she showed empathy and understanding, assisting me to get into a Tourism course to improve my resume and keep my mind busy,” said Boris.
Boris was then presented with an opportunity to work in a fly in fly out (FIFO) opportunity and he thought it would be a great fit to gain some hospitality skills while studying tourism.
atWork Australia hosted a four-day session called Identify and Prepare for Employment to prepare clients for these roles. Here he met pre-employment facilitator, Maureen.
“Maureen made what I thought was going to be a very tedious course into something very fun, doable, and lively, with one of her quotes that has remained in my head being – battles are won and lost in the mind! – this has stayed with me and given me confidence for work applications,” said Boris.
As part of the course, it was identified that Boris would need a white card, a responsible service of alcohol ticket and food handling certificate.
He has since completed all of these qualifications and is now in the final stages of commencing work.
“The security of knowing I have good people looking after me at Mirrabooka atWork Australia, has helped keep me going,” said Boris.
Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Boris expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
