Nathaniel was eager to build experience and develop a long-term career. At 20 years old, he was ready to set himself up for success.
He shared with Job Coach, Kayla, that he was really interested in starting a trade, and had interest in the building and carpentry industry.
atWork Australia started advocating for Nathaniel with local employers. They took him down to a local cabinet making business, so he could learn more about the industry, and start chatting with employers about opportunities.
While Nathaniel was at the local cabinet making business, the employer offered to give Nathaniel a trial for work experience.
However, before Nathaniel was able to confirm, another employer contacted him with an apprenticeship opportunity.
atWork Australia supported Nathaniel with tools and work-related clothing to start his new apprenticeship. He was also assisted to upskill with a forklift ticket, and high-risk licence for any tasks which might need to be conducted during his apprenticeship.
Shortly after Nathaniel commenced, he contacted Kayla and shared that he might be let go from his apprenticeship as he was losing his driver’s licence for a short time, and it was a requirement for the job.
Nathaniel provided Kayla permission to contact his employer. Kayla advocated for Nathaniel, and through negotiation with the employer was able to save Nathaniel’s role.
He will now be buddied up with an experienced team member who has agreed to drive him to jobs, which will also assist him to learn more as part of his apprenticeship.
