Lucy (18) is living with severe anxiety and an intellectual disability. She previously worked in a local restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant closed, and Lucy’s employment also ended.
Lucy reached out to atWork Australia in Pinjarra, WA where she met Job Coach Leith. Leith built a positive relationship with Lucy and, advised her that she can complete an RSA course. Leith also suggested that Lucy attend a Careers Day in Boddington. This would be a great opportunity for Lucy to seek more meaningful work and a career.
Job Coach Leith supported Lucy with interview techniques and resume building. On the Careers Day, unfortunately, Lucy was not able to enter the building and Leith went above and beyond, by assuring Lucy and taking her in to meet the employers. Lucy and Leith visited each exhibitor and Lucy secured employment at Sodexo On-site Services, where she had applied online.
Lucy was looking for a stable role where she could grow her career and needed to build her confidence about her potential. Leith assisted Lucy through to the Post Placement Support phase. Lucy’s life has turned around and she can work on her career.
Lucy’s employer contacted her directly to advise that she had been successful. She immediately called Leith and was “very happy and grateful for Leith’s support on a day that she thought she just could not do it.” Leith and Lucy celebrated over the phone.
Leith says: “I even cried when Lucy told me the great news. Lucy has been very grateful and felt that she would not have had the opportunity if I wasn’t there. She was so happy when she got the job, that she said that I was the first one she called. Lucy felt that if it wasn’t for me, she wouldn’t have had the opportunity.”
Leith adds: “I have seen Lucy grow and become a confident young woman. I am privileged to be a part of her success.”
Lucy says: “I am thankful to my Job Coach, Leith, for suggesting the Careers Expo at Boddington. Leith was there for me to overcome my barriers and get the confidence to meet with the employers and apply for positions. This has changed my future.”
