Emily met atWork Australia’s Job Coach, Chanel, at the local Ballarat Jobs Fair. She had attended the fair looking to find an employer with a good workplace culture but connected with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services.
At 25 years old, Emily had a background in nursing however, due to her health conditions she needed to transition into more of an administration role.
She had found many short-term employment opportunities but often found herself in poor work cultures which did not support her health.
When she started working with Chanel, she needed guidance on the types of roles she could do with employers who would be supportive, positive and understanding of her needs.
For Job Coach Chanel, it was important Emily maintained control over her job applications, knowing she had his support during the process.
“We worked together on Emily’s resume and cover letter preparation, tailoring them to positions Emily was applying for.
“We did this collaboratively, so Emily was confident and had self-belief and ownership in her job applications,” said Chanel.
After only three months, Emily was successful in a customer service officer role.
Emily was so happy to share the news of her success explaining to Chanel they are the friendly and supportive work environment she needed.
“Before starting with atWork Australia I had lost a lot of my confidence in myself and was very nervous about rejoining the workforce.
“Chanel helped to decide what type of work to apply for, and things that I might enjoy going forward. During the application process, Chanel didn’t take over, ensuring my application reflected me as a person and confirming any changes before we finalised them,” said Emily.
“Now I have commenced work I still feel very supported by atWork Australia and am very appreciative of the help and support I received,” said Emily.
