Troy (47), had moved from Central Coast, NSW to Victoria for a change of scenery and to be closer to his family, early in 2021.

Troy lives with anxiety, depression and ADHD and reached out to atWork Australia to support him finding employment in the region. He was connected with Job Coach, Brad. When Troy first met Brad, he discussed wanting to get back into hospitality as he enjoyed cooking and had started an apprenticeship years ago.

Due to Troy’s depression and anxiety, he felt knocked about and found it difficult to gain employment. Troy’s move to Victoria had motivated him to make his life better, with a fresh start.

He was quickly assisted into his dream job as a cook working at the local hotel in Shepparton. However, due to the COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, Troy needed to go back to Brad to ask for further assistance to find a job. The loss of employment and income affected Troy’s mental health. Troy was motivated to get back on his feet as soon as possible and told Brad he would be happy to move to any location for the right job.

Troy wanted to stay working in hospitality, Troy said his passion is cooking and he loves to work in the hospitality industry. Thus, Brad reached out to the Stanhope Family Hotel where owner, Mandi, was looking for a cook to join her business.

Brad has known Mandi for about five years and was very happy to be able to find a great cook for her, and to find a supportive employer for Troy.

Brad said, “Troy has been great to work with and it has been a pleasure helping him gain employment in an area he is passionate about.”

Troy was “stoked” and “blown away” about gaining employment again. Since starting with the Stanhope Family Hotel, Troy has already started to create new menus and is really enjoying the environment and support he is receiving from Mandi and his colleagues.

Troy said, “Brad was great at giving me a life boost and helping with my confidence.”

Brad said, “Troy is able to work his magic in the kitchen and is becoming a welcomed part of the Stanhope Community”. Troy was out of work for only one month, his motivation and dedication to achieving his goals has helped him.

“I am feeling on top of the world and looking forward to the future.”
