Single Parent, Sachelle, had the long-term goal of entering the workforce to support her family but wasn’t sure where to start.
Sachelle was living with mental health conditions and her qualifications were outdated. Additionally, she didn’t have her own transport; this left her feeling isolated from her community.
She started working with her Job Coach, Anne, in the ParentsNext team with atWork Australia in Pinjarra, Western Australia.
Anne started off by getting Sachelle to attend regular appointments. During this time, she got to know Sachelle and they began to talk about her concerns with returning to work and her goals.
Anne then referred Sachelle to atWork Australia’s internal program to help her regain her self-confidence, understand her personal goals, areas of growth and ultimately encourage Sachelle to take the leap into engaging in further education.
“atWork Australia’s program supported Sachelle to work out who her support network was. This gave her the confidence to enroll in a Certificate III in Business – Medical Administration,” said Anne.
“Where previously she was overwhelmed by all the options, and things she needed to do, she now can see a path with small steppingstones and a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Sachelle said that having her Job Coach continually supporting her, believing in her and listening to her, helped her on her journey. “I can’t fault ParentsNext and especially my Job Coach,” said Sachelle.
“She has been so supportive and helped me achieve many goals I didn’t know where there.”
For Sachelle, having support to understand what her goals were and where to start on her journey to employment, gave her the confidence to succeed.
