When John came to atWork Australia, he was motivated to get back to work. However, due to his significant health barriers, limited employment history, and not having a Driver’s Licence, John was finding it extremely difficult to find suitable employment. Due to John’s personal circumstances, he was finding it difficult to find suitable housing.
While John was reaching out for support from NSW Department of Community and Justice services Housing Parramatta, he was introduced to atWork Australia Job Coach, Aysel, who explained to John how atWork Australia could support him on his employment journey. John is now being supported by atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Service team at the Guildford, NSW, office.
John explained his barriers to his Job Coach, Aysel, and that he needed some guidance to find the right employer. Aysel wasted no time in helping John progress on his journey; she immediately began contacting local employers on John’s behalf. Additionally, Aysel referred John to atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement team, who could connect John with their network of employers.
Now, John had the whole team in his corner, it wasn’t long before he secured a position with a supportive employer, Rosie Recruitment, as a Laundry Hand. John is in employment and he is being supported by his In-Work Support Coach, Charan. Charan speaks with John on a regular basis to provide support, which includes mentoring, coaching and assisting with any challenges he may face at work. John feels that he has been supported throughout his entire journey with atWork Australia. John said, “The support I received has been focused on my needs, on a personal level and not just prioritising work.” The regular support has allowed John to progress towards achieving his goals in both work and his personal life.
John is feeling positive and believes he is on the right track to achieve his desired career goal. John’s current employment is supporting him in every aspect of his life. John is supported financially, mentally, and at the same time he is gaining skills and valuable experience in the workplace.
