Good News from atWork Australia. Quote reads atWork Australia’s ParentsNext team has helped me to be work-ready and confident, with my car modifications. It has built my confidence and allowed me to work towards finding a job that will suit me and my child.”

25-year-old Rachael started working with the atWork Australia ParentsNext team in Cannington, WA when her baby was 8 months old.

The team, including Job Coach, Frances, got to know Rachael and her goals in life.

They learnt she wanted to gain her Drivers Licence to have some independence, to work in administration some day and to feel more confident within herself.

Frances spoke to Rachael about some upskilling options to be ready for an administration role and together they came up with a plan. The first step was for Rachel to enrol in a Certificate III in Medical Administration. atWork Australia financially supported her to enrol and to purchase a laptop to complete the course.

She was also supported to attended Wellness Sessions internally through atWork Australia and was able to avoid wait times through the other systems. In the meantime, the team continued to encourage her to complete her driving lessons.

Living with achondroplasia Rachael was borrowing her mother’s car for driving lessons as she needed specially modified pedals.

She had an accident previously that affected her confidence, so when she was finally ready to take her test, she was devastated to learn that she was unable to use her mother’s car and needed to have her own personalised modifications.

Those modifications were very expensive, and she hadn’t been able to secure any funding from local disability support groups.

Her Job Coach Frances, said that atWork Australia would be able to help her financially with her modifications, as having a car would help her with future job opportunities.

With her qualification, and now with a car, Rachael is feeling confident and ready to look for work.

“atWork Australia’s ParentsNext team has helped me to be work-ready and confident, with my car modifications. It has built my confidence and allowed me to work towards finding a job that will suit me and my child,” said Rachael.
