Andrea, a Disability Employment Services Client of atWork Australia in Kwinana, Western Australia, had been out of work for three years.
Andrea lives with a Neurological disorder which affects her memory and speech. She lacked confidence in interviews and thought employers would look negatively on her barriers.
She had also recently experienced a relationship breakdown which had also affected her self-esteem.
When Andrea started with atWork Australia, she was referred to our Jobs Now program to support her regain her confidence, especially when it came to job interviews and applying for work.
She soon landed an opportunity at her local optometrist to interview as an Optical Assistant.
After her interview, her Job Coach called to check in with the employer and Andrea learnt a past manager had really advocated for her skills and abilities.
“Andrea felt really supported and encouraged, hearing that other people had advocated and put in a good word,” said Chantel, Andrea’s In-Work Support Coach.
Andrea was successful in landing the role and started being supported by Chantel through atWork Australia’s In-Work Support program.
“The extra support made Andrea feel more stable and improved her self-esteem and confidence. Now with ongoing work she is healthier, happier, and more independent,” said Chantel.
Andrea is now a Clinic Coordinator. Her manager says she is a valued addition to the team.
“Andrea has been a massive asset to our team. She has taken on an integral role within our business, and she takes it very seriously and completes her tasks accurately and with pride,” said Karen, Andrea’s manager.
“She is fantastic for our culture, and we are so pleased with how amazingly she has done and progressed since joining us.”
Andrea’s long-term goal is to save to go to Europe on holiday. atWork Australia looks forward to celebrating that milestone with Andrea in the future.
