“atWork Australia has been very good. They haven’t rushed me and the support I have received in building up my confidence helped me to realise I could work” – Lee-Ann, DES Client, WA

Lee-Ann lives with anxiety; she has low self-esteem and confidence. Lee-Ann was scared of going into public places and being around people, and because of this, she had little work experience. With the help of the supportive atWork Australia team, she now works eight hours per week in her dream role.

It took Lee-Ann a little while to come into the atWork Australia office in Albany, Western Australia. When she did, she met with a Job Coach and local Service Manager, Raine, who worked closely with Lee-Ann over time.

“We looked at her strengths, her transferable life skills and helped her with coping techniques. We talked about her long-term goals and how we could get there step-by-step. Lee-Ann’s long-term goal was to be a driver or to collect trolleys,” said Raine.

The team started with mentoring and coaching Lee-Ann to help build up her confidence.  Then they worked together to identify roles Lee-Ann would be comfortable with.

The atWork Australia team approached employers and advocated on Lee-Ann’s behalf. They found Lee-Ann her dream role as both a driver and a trolley collector.

“We marketed her to one of our employers who have contracts to do trolleys at Coles and Kmart. She now gets to drive around and collect trolleys. So, she can achieve both of her goals in the one role.”

“The moment I met Lee-Ann, she was quite anxious and did lack confidence. Seeing her overcome this has been a real pleasure. Lee-Ann appears to be happier and more confident, especially when she talks about her job and how much she loves being able to both drive and collect trolleys.”

Lee-Anne says she is happier within herself, financially more stable, able to sleep better, and has more confidence.

“I am happy with my job and more confident in day-to-day things. My anxiety has gotten better with being in crowds and public places.”
