“My Job Coach Samantha really cared about getting me employment. She checks up on me throughout my employment journey to make sure I am going well and managing my mental health. Our goal is to make sure this job is long term,” said atWork Australia client Jake.
Jake came to atWork Australia in Northam, Western Australia through the Workforce Australia program. Here he was connected to Job Coach Samantha.
Jake believes that it was the warm and welcoming energy he received when he first walked into that office which has led him on a path to sustainable employment.
Jake was experiencing challenges in his personal life including living with mental health conditions. He was experiencing anxiety and depression and felt like he had no skills or qualifications so would not be successful in employment.
“When Jake arrived in the office, he was not confident about finding employment. I sat him down and spoke to him about his goals and experience and we quickly wrote up a resume for Jake. We then went for a walk from the office dropping into local businesses to have a quick chat about opportunities.
“When we got back to the office he had a whole new mindset on employment,” said Samantha.
After his first appointment, Jake received a phone call only hours later from one of those businesses he dropped into for an interview.
“Jake attended his appointments regularly and we could see his confidence shine and develop with every appointment. He said the energy and environment of our office turned his attitude around and now he pops in just to say hi,” said Samantha.
“I am forever grateful for what Samantha and the atWork Australia team have done for me. If I never came into that office, I would still be at square one. Samantha gave me her time, didn’t rush me and I felt like she really cared about helping me find work,” said Jake.
After Jake landed a role as a bottle shop attendant, the atWork Australia team helped Jake to purchase his uniform and are now working towards helping Jake obtain a licence so he can work additional hours. Another step forward to his goal of achieving long term employment.
