Workforce Australia client, Michael, reached out to the team at atWork Australia in Shellharbour, NSW seeking assistance finding a full-time job that he both loved and catered to his medical conditions.
Michael lives with anxiety and dyslexia which at times, has defeated his confidence in finding a role that is perfect for him. When he met with his Job Coach for the first time, he quickly learnt that the perfect job was out there for him.
In the past Michael worked in the green-keeping trade and really enjoyed his role. However, he has found it difficult to find a role similar and has spent over 10 years trying to find one. Knowing how much he wanted to enter back into the trade, his Job Coach was hoping to find him a role in the field.
His Job Coach spent a significant amount of time looking for a role as a green keeper and with great success, they found a full-time position with a local employer. When Michael found out about this position, he was ecstatic and insisted that he applied immediately.
The pair worked together to form the perfect resume and sent this to the employer.
After an interview with the employer, Michael was successful in achieving this position. He expressed to his Job Coach that he was so excited and said how proud he is of himself he is not for not giving up on his goal.
In the lead up to commencing work, Michael had to sign a lot a documentation and learn how to use the mobile application that his employer uses. Due to Michaels dyslexia and not being very tech savvy, he found this stage of his employment journey the most difficult. His Job Coach ensured that they were him when completing all the documentation, so he felt confident and capable.
As Michael’s first day was approaching, atWork Australia provided him with financial assistance to purchase some new work boots, so he looked and felt the part. After receiving his new work boots, he left the office with the biggest smile on his face as it was all starting to feel real.
In November, Michael started his new role and is loving it. He appreciates all the work that his Job Coach has done for him and states, “You have helped me so much, I don’t know how to thank you! I’m so happy I found this job and I’ve told my boss that I’ll be here till I retire”
