After 10 years of unemployment, Stephen is excited to be back at work and looking forward to a brighter future. Prior to coming to atWork Australia, Stephen had not worked since 2013, before that he had worked in various factory roles, but had a limited employment history with no formal qualifications.
Often after an extended period of unemployment, the very thought of returning to work can be scary. Stephen made a brave decision to put his hand up and ask for assistance on his employment journey. In doing so, he connected with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Kelmscott, WA.
When Stephen met his Job Coach, Lisa, he shared that his mental health often fluctuates, he had a mood disorder and that he did not have a driver’s licence. Stephen’s long-term goal was to improve his health and commence study.
Lisa explained how atWork Australia could support Stephen on his employment journey and advised that he could get support to pursue his goal of improving his education. Lisa supported Stephen to enroll in a Certificate III in Supply Operations. Additionally, atWork Australia were able to provide financial support for Stephen to complete his forklift ticket.
Now Stephen was equipped with his new qualification and forklift ticket, his Job Coach, Lisa, with the support of atWork Australia Employer Engagement Consultant, Caroline, put him forward to various vacancies. From this, Stephen secured two interviews, which led to a work trial and then an offer of employment. After 10 years of unemployment, Stephen was absolutely delighted to secure a position as a Warehouse Assistant. Stephen said, “My experience with atWork Australia has been outstanding. Their personalised approach, expertise and commitment to client success makes them a top-notch service.” To further assist Stephen to get to and from work, atWork Australia are supporting him to obtain his moped license.
