61-year-old, Trevor, started as a Disability Employment Services client with atWork Australia in 2019.
Trevor had a background running a printing press, but since then he hasn’t had a specific employment goal. He has been willing to give anything a try.
Living with mental health concerns and addiction, Trevor has had a few roles since first connecting with atWork Australia.
He worked as a delivery driver, but he needed to step out of work to focus on his health. He then picked up a role delivering food to school canteens, however found the truck difficult to drive. He also tried production but did not enjoy the work.
His Job Coach, Kathleen, worked with Trevor during these moments. Encouraging him that he would eventually find a role that suited him and to never give up.
Not being too tech savvy, Trevor would also come into the office when he needed help applying for online work or filling in any paperwork.
Over this time, he developed a good relationship with the atWork Australia team.
During one appointment, Trevor mentioned to Kathleen that he had been dropping his bottles and cans down to a local recycling centre. He wondered if they might have any work available.
Kathleen enlisted the support of atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Team, who already had a relationship with the employer, to find out.
While the Employer Engagement Team was liaising with the employer, the team supported Trevor to be work ready.
They supported Trevor on his detox journey to start his new role. He was offered professional support, and the team encouraged him along the way.
They helped him gain his working with children check, purchased work wear for Trevor, and offered the employer a wage subsidy so Trevor could start his dream job.
He is now working at the recycling centre and is so far thriving in his new employment.
