‘Unrecognisable’ is how the atWork Australia team in St Mary’s, NSW, would describe the transformation that occurred to their 27-year-old client, Lyndelle.
The first time Workforce Australia client, Lyndelle entered the office, she was extremely withdrawn, was living with mental health conditions, and lacked trust in not only others, but the system too. She had a history of homelessness which only added to the instability in her life at the time.
Her trust in the system would soon change when she met with her Job Coach, Cassandra. Together they embarked on an inspiring journey.
When they first met, Lyndelle could not see past her immediate individual barriers, her lifestyle, and concerns. She did not believe the tasks and mutual obligations which were in front of her, were possible.
“I built a rapport with Lyndelle based on trust and availability. Over time she increased her engagement, conversations were mutually contributed to,” said Cassandra.
“Where needed, I would reach out to other divisions of the business to ensure she was getting the specific support she needed. This included the enrollment into our Wellness Services.”
Lyndelle possessed all the skills needed to enter the labour market, all she needed was to build her confidence in herself and her abilities to perform in the workplace.
With time, and ongoing tailored support from Cassandra and Service Manager, Jenni, Lyndelle’s confidence was at an all-time high. She was ready to take her next step into employment.
And that she did. Soon after taking the leap, Lyndelle was offered a full-time position as a Truck Driver.
