At just 33-years-old, Jade has been through more than most however a smile remains on her face. atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team were recently able to support Jade to find work, and one more reason to smile.
Jade, from Caboolture in Queensland, approached atWork Australia for support in finding work following six years of unemployment.
Jade was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 27, and since her diagnosis has lost her license and undergone brain surgery. Due to this, she was struggling to get back to work. Over the six years since her diagnosis, Jade also developed severe depression and anxiety.
When Jade joined atWork Australia, her Job Coach Matt could see that Jade had low confidence. Jade stated that she didn’t think she could ever get back into the workforce.
Matt recognised the friendly nature of Jade, and although the traits were hidden, Matt knew that with some encouragement and support Jade would be back to her old self and ready for employment.
Matt supported Jade with resume and cover letter support, as well as interview practice.
Matt also implemented strategies to help build Jane’s confidence, including encouraging her self-belief. This was supplemented by Jade completing atWork Australia’s in-house health coaching program Positivum, an evidence-based assessment and health coaching program. The innovative tool profiles clients and provides insights into the areas they can work on to overcome personal challenges that could hold them back from finding work.
When Jade felt confident to work again, Matt supported Jade into applying for a role in Customer Service. Matt was also able to support Jade in preparing for her interview by providing interview clothing for Jade.
After a successful interview, Jade was offered the job. Jade found out and went straight to atWork Australia to tell Matt. “I was excited and nervous and couldn’t stop shaking with excitement,” says Jade.
Jade is now loving her job, living her life to the full.
The atWork Australia Caboolture team are supporting Jade on an ongoing basis. This friendly support helps Jade to settle into her new role and sustain her job through any future challenges.
