At 65 years old, with limited skills and qualifications, Amber* feared she wouldn’t be able to find employment or meet her monthly requirements.
When Amber connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team at the Northam office in Western Australia, she shared with her Job Coach, Jodie, that she was anxious, she wanted to do the right thing, but felt with her limited skills and qualifications she wouldn’t be able to complete her monthly job searches.
Jodie assured Amber that atWork Australia were here to help and that they could tailor the service to meet her individual needs.
Jodie suggested that Amber participate in atWork Australia’s internal program, Ready Set Go. By participating in the program, she gained a better understanding of how the Points Based Activation System (PBAS) could be tailored to meet her personal requirements.
Amber worked closely with Jodie, to tailor her requirements to meet her goals and give her the best opportunity to progress towards employment.
Amber’s main barrier was her limited skills and qualifications. To overcome this barrier, Amber was enrolled within a range of programs and activities, which intern developed her employability skills.
In a short period of time, Amber completed atWork Australia’s internal programs, MoneyMinded and Jobs Now. From the confidence she gained from completing these two programs, Amber decided to obtain a Heavy Rigid driver’s licence, opening a door to a new industry.
Additionally, Amber attended Dress for Success, where she was able to obtain a professional outfit, she can wear to interviews.
With her new outfit and successfully completing multiple programs, Amber’s confidence was growing by the day.
The tailored approach has benefited Amber, she is positively engaged with every opportunity or program offered to her. Amber continues to take on new opportunities to upskill, she is currently completing a certificate III in Civil Construction.
Due to her tailored requirements, her focus is purely on her course and developing new skills to gain employment in her new industry of choice.
Amber has been very appreciative of the flexibility and is incredibly excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
