Good news from atWork Australia.

‘Unsteady, unstable and at times, unsafe’ was how Workforce Australia client, Amy, described her past six-months, before entering the care of atWork Australia, Wollongong.

Amy was looking for a career change after 10-years as a Disability Support Worker. Not knowing how to take the first step, Amy entered the atWork Australia office in Wollongong seeking assistance to get into a role that was both rewarding and enjoyable.

Within her initial appointment with Job Coach, Mikaela, she stated that she has lost 90% of her possessions and belongings to those “giving her a safe place to stay.” This not only made her feel unsafe but also affected her ability to trust people.

As a first point of call, Mikaela ensured that she got to know Amy; her past, present, goals and what she wants her future to look like. She also ensured Amy that we are here to help and listed several ways we can assist. One of these services included the in-house Wellness Services. Amy was very interested in being involved, and as a result, Mikaela enrolled her.

Mikaela and the Wollongong team also assisted Amy financially to ensure that she was safe, well fed and prepared for any future job interviews.

“Amy found that her Wellness and progress appointments had helped set her up, ready to begin pursuing her dream career in Counselling,” said Mikaela.

With the verbal and financial support of Mikaela, Amy has since commenced her diploma in Counselling, and she is really enjoying it.

Amy has praised the extensive support services offered by the local Wollongong atWork Australia team, stating

“I was thankfully transferred to the services of atWork Australia. Where I met my current Job Coach and my struggles were greatly lessened thanks to the services Mikaela and atWork Australia provided for me.”

“Mikaela and atWork Australia have been a great support to me. They took the time to get to know me and my barriers, so they could work with and around them. As a Disability Support Worker, I know the importance of getting to know an individual, so you can work with their individual needs. Mikaela and atWork Australia have shown that, they too, know the importance of this and, thanks to their support, I am still here and alive.”

Mikaela said. “[it’s been a great pleasure watching her progress and regain her strength to finally feel motivated and inspired to commence the beginning of gaining her qualification for her dream career.”

atWork Australia will continue to work with Amy into the future.
