The weight of losing someone close to you can be unbearable and for Ash, the loss of his beloved father led to deep anxiety and depression, which also impacted his physical wellbeing.
From Woy Woy, on the beautiful east coast of NSW, Ash had been working in the fitness industry. However, his grief affected his mental health, which in turn caused him to gain a significant amount of weight.
This physical change caused profound anxiety and Ash soon developed a fear of leaving the house and being seen in public.
Sitting around feeling low battered his self-esteem and confidence, and only led to further weight gain and deeper depression. Ash felt like he was on a treadmill of despair and without a stop button.

“Instead of holding our appointments in the office, I would go for a walk with Ash, to help him to ease back into the community and engage with the public,” says John.
Together they worked on Ash’s confidence and self-belief and slowly he began to feel more comfortable leaving the house.
Ash also completed interview training with atWork Australia and he soon began to realise what he was capable of.
John introduced him to a long-term client of atWork Australia, NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Resort, where Ash is now successfully employed as an amenities cleaner.
“Ash was so excited, he couldn’t believe it when he got the job,” says John.
“I met John in a very dark time where my health and mind set had dramatically declined. John has cared for, guided and support me. Words cannot explain how grateful I am for his support and commitment,” Ash says.
