Helen was connected to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services in Mowbray, Tasmania, when she could no longer stay at her long-term role because of her health.
A long term and loyal employee, Helen was unsure what kind of work she could do at 61 years of age and with a health condition.
Helen lives with migraines which are unpredictable and debilitating at times.
She worked with Job Coach, Dylan and Shannon, to regain her self-confidence by working on her cover letter and discussing all the valuable workplace skills she had to offer.
“I wanted to make Helen aware that she does possess valuable workplace skills. After we started applying for jobs, I could see her attitude change from focusing on her barriers to focusing on her future,” said Job Coach Dylan.
Job Coach, Shannon, then worked on pitching Helen to employers who she knew would be a good fit for Helen’s skills and abilities.
Dylan and Shannon then organised for the interview to take place at the atWork Australia office in an environment Helen knew, to help keep her calm and focused.
She was able to ace her interview and is now working part time as an administration assistant.
“Helen said she feels like she has a purpose again. She enjoys going to work every day and is learning something new every day,” said Shannon.
“She said she is now working in a fantastically supportive workplace with hours and workload that suit her perfectly.”
Helen said, “Attending an appointment felt like just chatting with friends. Work is a dream job, which suits my needs and barriers. Everyone here is fantastic.”
And the sentiment is reciprocated by her new employer who appreciates the skills and capabilities Helen has brought to the team.
“Helen has been wonderful to work with. It has been rewarding to see her confidence grow. Her attitude about her skills and capabilities have become so much more positive,” said her new employer.
