Job Coach, Andrew, said goodbye and wished his Disability Employment Services client, Kellie, good luck, as she embarked on a move to Southern New South Wales (NSW).
Four years later, Kellie would walk back into the Ballina office and burst into tears when she saw Andrew’s familiar face.
Over the past four years, Kellie had not found the opportunities she was hoping for in Southern NSW and asked if she could return to atWork Australia.
Kellie lives with Scoliosis which limits the type of work she can do. Andrew, and the atWork Australia team listened to Kellie’s needs and goals, and proactively searched for employment opportunities to match her abilities.
Andrew supported Kellie into a role as a Commercial Cleaner.
“Kellie lives with a learning disability and needs additional support with filling in paperwork and rosters,” said Andrew.
“When she started in her new role, the atWork Australia team supported Kellie by simplifying her rosters into AM/PM instead of 24-hour time, wrote a chemical guide to help identify what chemicals should be used for what, and created a photo board for Kellie to help her in her new role.”
From this support, Kellie has excelled in her new role, reaching a 26-week milestone. She appreciated atWork Australia’s tailored support so much, she will now move into In-Work Support to ensure she continues to thrive.
“I know I can ring Andrew and the team for support. Having someone to go to when there are issues that I’m not sure about, getting extra help understanding how things work, and support with different strategies to cope with diverse situations, has been really helpful,” said Kellie.
“atWork Australia believe in me and we always have a laugh. My life is much better since being employed in my current job.”
Andrew says, “Kellie is such a hard worker, any company that has Kellie as an employee is very lucky.”
