Lyka Pet Foods is a fresh and homemade dog food producer based in Sydney, but with national locations.
It took a little convincing from Employer Engagement Consultant Isabel for Lyka Pet Foods to try employment services, and since then they haven’t looked back.
“I explained to them the wide range of benefits of partnering with an employment services provider, including wage subsidies, subsidised training, and someone who would do all the leg work to find suitable candidates for them,” said Isabel.
After struggling to fill roles in a tight labour market, Lyka Pet Foods now works with recruiting agencies and employment services providers regularly to fill positions.
Isabel also encourages Lyka Pet Foods to think outside the box when it comes to staff. atWork Australia client, Lai, who at 65 and with limited English skills was struggling to find suitable work. Isabel referred her to Lyka Pet Foods as she was a motivated and hard worker.
“At first the Production Manager wasn’t sure about Lai, but now they are very happy to have her as part of the team as she has proven herself.”
Lai is now working in a permanent position and no longer requires atWork Australia’s assistance, having been in the role for six months now.
The partnership between atWork Australia and Lyka Pet Foods is down to the good understanding Isabel has of the organisation. Isabel is even looking to do a work experience day to better understand the processes.
“I pre-screen our clients before they meet with the employer. Once I see who a good fit will be, I get them to the employer for a face-to-face meeting, a site visit, and a tour.”
“Usually, they are offered an immediate start, and then provided one on one training in a variety of roles including production, dispatch, labelling, and quality checks. This range of roles available provides good career progression for our clients as well.”
“The team has invited me to participate in a day of production, to help our clients better understand the role and to let them know, if I can do it, so can they.”
