Tyrene (20), from Wollongong, NSW, had been unemployed for just over a year. She had been unable to find suitable work, and this affected her confidence and contributed to feelings of anxiety about her future.
Tyrene was experiencing a lack of confidence, thus connected with atWork Australia Wollongong for additional support. She was connected with Job coach Dylan, who was able to guide her through various activities to help her gain employment.
First and foremost, it was important that Dylan help Tyrene work on her confidence and self-belief so she would be in the right mindset to commence employment. Dylan referred Tyrene to the in-house Wellness Services for confidential sessions with an allied health professional.
Dylan helped Tyrene with interview coaching, as well as financial support for interview clothes so that she would feel at her best and confident for an interview.
Dylan’s time with Tyrene was only brief; she was placed into part-time employment as a Shop Assistant within a few weeks.
When Tyrene found out she was successful in landing the job, she called Dylan crying and so thankful for the support to gain employment.
Despite her barriers, Tyrene was able to utilise tailored support to work towards her goals of employment and overcome the challenges she faced as a result of long-term unemployment.
Dylan has also suggested that Tyrene be transferred across to an In-Work Support Consultant to continue receiving support and ensure she will thrive.
