Carly had recently turned her life around, but she struggled with confidence. She came to the MBC Employment Services and atWork Australia office in Batemans Bay with barriers to employment including recently recovering from drug use, lack of transport options, and mental health challenges. She needed practical help to start her journey to employment.
Employment Consultant Katarina worked with Carly to understand how they could improve her confidence. Carly had wanted her license for a while, so Katarina referred Carly to a local driving lesson program to obtain her P-plates.
“I’ve seen a huge improvement in her confidence as well as her engagement. Carly has been far more proactive and assertive since she started the driving lesson program and is now far better prepared and confident to apply for work and re-enter the workforce,” said Katarina.
Since Carly began driving lessons with a local driving school, Carly’s confidence has increased. She is far more outgoing and engaged and says gaining her license has been great for her independence.
“I’m so happy. Thank you for supporting me and encouraging me in these programs. I am so happy to have my license and feel like I am ready to get into the workforce again,” said Carly.
The achievement of finally obtaining her P-plates has helped Carly in more ways than one. As a mother, she can now take her son to school and is proud she can show her son she is accomplishing small steps to improve their opportunities as a family.
