Carole (64) has been a nurse and a carer for most of her working career. She also lives with anxiety and chronic pain. When her pain worsened, she began having difficulties walking, and with a heavy heart decided to give up her nursing license.
Her self-esteem was at its lowest when she came to the atWork Australia office in Golden Point, Victoria, and was introduced to her new Job Coach Simone.

Simone started teaching Carole the basics of job searching which she hadn’t had to do for almost 50 years. She also worked with Carole to establish her capabilities and limitations and look at what skills and ability she does have to offer.
“Little by little, my self-doubt eased, and my confidence increased. I was given opportunities for positions I qualified for close to home.
“I was not alone with Simone by my side,” said Carole.
“There have been ups and downs on this journey, but the support from atWork Australia has kept me focused and forward thinking and acting.”
Simone contacted local employers to see if they might have any roles not yet advertised which may suit Carole. Simone also referred her to EEC Margaret for additional support and through this was referred to Carole’s current employer.
“I landed a temporary position which was just what I needed to increase my skills and confidence. I then applied and was accepted into a permanent position.” Carole was successful due to atWork Australia promoting her specialised skills and the employer appreciating those skills.
The support from atWork Australia didn’t end there. When Carole found the employer wasn’t communicating well or she wanted to know more information, she contacted Margaret for assistance.
