Damian wanted a fresh start, to build his independence and secure meaningful and sustainable long-term employment.
Damian lives with mental health conditions and had been out of work for a year.
He connected with Job Coach, Jarryd, and Employer Engagement Consultant, Emily, from atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services in Frankston, Victoria.
Damian started talking with the team, having conversations around his goals for employment.
He really wanted to build himself a career in an environment where he was supported and comfortable.
Damian often experienced stress and anxiety when meeting new people and engaging with others. He needed a safe space to be open with his feelings so he could overcome these barriers.
Job Coach, Jarryd, worked closely with Damian and with the help of Employer Engagement Consultant Emily, they were able to help Damian land a role in scaffolding.
Despite his limited work experience, the employer was willing to give Damian a go, which he was thankful for.
Once he started in the role, the atWork Australia team continued to support Damian through In-Work Support.
“It was really important to keep that open space available for Damian so he could continue to speak up about how he was feeling with his anxiety and if anything was causing him stress,” said Jarryd.
“It was really rewarding to help Damian find a role where he felt comfortable to be himself and feel part of a team.”
