“At sixty-three years old, David was engaging the services of an employment service provider for the very first time. He was new to the Centrelink system, had no idea about the Points Based Activations System (PBAS); the term mutual obligations were foreign to him, and he had never heard of atWork Australia. David explained to Preet that he had worked as a HR truck driver for most of his life and he has never had a resume. David was referred to atWork Australia’s internal program, Ready Set Go. The program aims to teach participants about Workforce Australia, the support they can receive and how they can meet their mutual obligations.
Additionally, David was referred to atWork Australia’s Jobs Now program, which is an employment preparation program. During Jobs Now, David was able to create his very first resume, cover letter, and developed his interview skills so he can confidently communicate his skills and experience in an interview.
David was very impressed with the support he received from atWork Australia and the pre-employment training, which assisted him in understanding PBAS and his mutual obligations.
As part of the Jobs Now program, David was able to complete his forklift ticket and White Card, which will create additional employment opportunities. David has continued to progress on his employment journey since coming to atWork Australia. He is now more confident and prepared to put his best foot forward. With David’s positive attitude, he will be back in the workplace in no time.
