David has been unemployed for eight years. When he first commenced as a client, he was anxious; he lacked self-confidence and drive. He also had no computer skills.
From the Illawarra, NSW, David had a feeling that his barriers, along with his age, didn’t make him employable.
David’s Job Coach, Kimberly, wanted to ensure that David utilised the programs available to him as a Workforce Australia client. Thus, created a job plan that would allow him to improve his skills and knowledge in preparation of finding employment.
Kimberly enrolled David into Positivum; a program designed to addresses beliefs and perceptions relating to health and work. She also referred David to Wellness Services for additional support and guidance.
While David was participating in these activities, they both worked together to establish goals for employment and the steps needed to get there. David completed interview skills and preparation programs; he has become more confident at every stage along the journey.
David also completed a Bus Authority training course so he could land a job as a Bus Driver.
David has come a long way since he first commenced; he has shown a keen drive to do what he needs to improve his skills and knowledge to enhance his employability.
After receiving tailored support from Kimberly, David is more confident to engage with employers and advocate for him himself. He no longer sees his age as a barrier.
David says that the support he has received from Kimberly means a lot. When he came into employment services, he wasn’t confident he’d pick up any skills. Now, he is completing the final medical checks before starting his career as a Bus Driver.
