Changing direction in your career is a big moment for most people. For Donna who lives with anxiety and depression, she needed atWork Australia’s ongoing support to help her navigate her new journey to employment.
Donna, 43, has previously worked in childcare and aged care, but her health meant she needed to look for a new direction in her career. She was very interested in working in administration but was unsure how to make the switch.
She met with Job Coach Vicky, at atWork Australia’s Kwinana office, WA. They looked at Donna’s resume and made changes to focus more on the administration aspects of her previous experience.
Donna was also enrolled in a Certificate III in Business. Vicky worked with Donna to improve her confidence and organised an interview with a call centre that would allow Donna to work from home.
“Donna was so excited to land a role in the field she was interested in. But with her anxiety, she began to get nervous and started doubting herself,” said Vicky.
“I coached Donna as she started her new role and often spoke with her on the phone to help her navigate her first few weeks.”
Donna wanted to walk away from her new job multiple times but with the help and support of Job Coach Vicky, she is now confident in her role.
“Now Donna has the hang of things she is really enjoying the role and is thriving,” said Vicky.
“Just having a listening ear to talk her through those first few weeks helped improve her confidence.”
Donna’s new employer has also seen a big change in her confidence.
