Dorian (47) from Coffs Harbour, NSW has an extensive background as a labourer, however he was unable to continue working in this type of position due to being impacted by a double hernia (causing internal organs to push through a weak spot in muscle or tissue) which required surgery.
Due to his injury, he was unable to continue working in a physically demanding job but he was very keen to re-enter the workforce, and contacted atWork Australia in Coffs Harbour for assistance in applying for roles which were suitable for him.
Here, he met Job Coach, Krystle, who supported him in updating his resume, writing applications and practicing interview techniques. Krystle also assisted Dorian with updating his forklift license and the registration for his car to assist him with getting to and from work. atWork Australia also purchased work clothes for Dorian to get him job-ready.
In cooperation with the local Employment Engagement team, Krystle was able to secure a role as Waste Sorter for Dorian. Krystle says: “Dorian was over the moon when he found out that he has a job. He has been more than appreciative of atWork Australia’s support.”
Dorian says: “I would not have a job if it wouldn’t be for Krystle. I received support, empathy, advice and just a general feeling of being important to Krystle. atWork Australia is by far the best employment service provider I have ever used.”
Dorian’s employer is very satisfied with his work and was able to accommodate his needs and barriers. His manager, Shaun, has asked Dorian whether he would like to progress into a management role.
Krystle says: “Dorian was my first client. He was so cooperative in every way and open to any suggestions. He was amazingly work driven.”
