At atWork Australia, we know that a strong and trusting partnership between our client and Job Coach leads to the most positive outcomes. This is certainly the case for job seeker Dylan, who with the help of his Job Coach, Nick, has been able to land the job of his dreams in the local agricultural industry.
Dylan was an extremely introverted person and found it difficult to communicate with strangers. This had affected his ability to find and sustain an ongoing role.
At first, due to Dylan’s severe shyness, Nick simply met with him regularly to talk together about his aspirations and personal interests.
“We just worked together to help Dylan learn to communicate more effectively and to motivate him to work toward his goals,” Nick explains.
Once Dylan had more confidence in himself, Nick managed to secure an interview with Red Gem Growers and Packers, a local potato and onion grower in Nar Nar Goon.
Red Gem Manager Kerryn remembers Dylan’s interview well, saying “we knew this young man had potential, and we wanted to give him a go.”
Dylan initially began three days a week and grew in confidence each day, showing an eagerness to learn anything and everything. Once he was confident on the packing line, Dylan was then trained and promoted to Machine Operator. He now works 5-6 days a week.
“Dylan is a completely changed person and is completely incomparable to the guy that first walked in the door here,” says Kerryn. “We have seen Dylan change from being shy and quiet into a confident young man, who we are so happy to have as a team member. So many staff around the workplace, including managers, have commented on how he has come out of his shell in six months. He is well liked by his co-workers,” she adds.
atWork Australia and Nick’s ongoing support has been greatly appreciated by Dylan and his family, who had previously been looking to relocate to find Dylan a role that would suit his capabilities. But not anymore.
“I’m very happy to be employed by Red Gem,” says Dylan. “I enjoy being able to do different duties, I have already had a promotion, I see myself working with Red Gem for a long time.”
