Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy meaningful work. When it comes to disability, injury or health condition, the very strengths and skills that help people live with their circumstances are also skills that are highly valued in the workplace, like determination, dedication, resilience and compassion.

Newcastle-based, 53-year old Kyle required assistance in identifying his strengths and unique skillset and was introduced to his Job Coach Kelly at the atWork Australia office in Charlestown.

A few years ago, Kyle was hit by a car which caused a physical injury and the inability to work for over 9 years. This resulted in a lack of qualifications and recent work experiences and caused low confidence in regards to finding employment.

Kelly assisted Kyle with building his confidence, tailoring his resume for relevant industries and sending it to selected employers. She also prepared him for interviews and offered continuous encouragement.

Through atWork Australia, Kyle was able to obtain a first aid certificate and complete a Certificate III in Business Administration.

atWork Australia’s local Employer Engagement Consultant had a long-term employer relationship with a local cleaning business and recommended Kyle as a candidate. In addition to that, wage subsidies have been offered to the employer.

Kyle was very excited when he found out about his employment opportunity as getting work means for him that he no longer has to live from paycheque to paycheque.

Kyle confirmed that it has been a great journey from joining atWork Australia through to getting a job. He has enjoyed working with his Job Coach and he has felt supported, reassured and encouraged. He says: “I am enjoying not being stressed anymore due to finding employment and having a regular income every week.”

Kelly adds to that: “Since commencing work with Adelle’s Cleaning, I have seen personal growth in Kyle. He enjoys getting up and going to work each day and I can see Kyle is eager to move forward in his role.”
