Nita didn’t believe she would find work.
At 35, she had been unemployed for more than 10 years while she cared for family, so had little workplace experience.
She lives with anxiety, and due to this, she hadn’t yet learnt to drive. With her rural home address and reliance on other people to drive her, Nita thought she had no hope of finding work.
Nita was connected with Job Coach, Joanne, at Two Wells in South Australia as part of the Workforce Australia program.
“When I first met Nita, she was very shy and quiet. She felt like she had so many barriers to employment she wouldn’t find any work to suit her,” said Joanne.
Joanne first referred Nita into our Wellness Services, so she had support with her health and wellbeing.
They then discussed potential employers in her rural area and types of work she might like to do.
They decided hospitality could be a good option, especially in the local nearby pub.
Job Coach Joanne enrolled Nita into an RSA course and called the local pub to see if they would be interested in providing her with some work experience.
After her first shift, she was offered paid employment with flexible hours. atWork Australia helped Nita purchase her work uniform for her new role.
Nita is still currently supported by atWork Australia through In-Work Support and recently, with atWork Australia’s support, has started taking driving lessons.
“At the beginning I had trouble talking to her but now she is so excited when she knows she has an appointment with me. Nita rings just to let me know when she learns a new skill at work,” said Joanne.
atWork Australia’s support, including upskilling and ongoing support, helped motivate Nita to attend the job interview and she is now thriving.
“I am so thankful that I met Joanne, she has helped me be happier and gave me a feeling that I can do anything with a little help,” said Nita.
