Disability Employment Services client, Gregory, needed to pause his employment to focus on his health.
He was living with chronic pain and was waiting for medical intervention to alleviate some of the pain.
Gregory had a poor perception of employment services and thought “they pushed you into work you weren’t suited for.” It took some convincing from his Job Coach, Cindy, from the Roxburgh Park atWork Australia office to encourage Gregory to come into the office for his appointments.
“I negotiated and initiated work with Gregory on his terms. I encouraged him to take the time he needed to be healthy and to get back to job searching when he was ready,” said Cindy.
Gregory was surprised by the flexibility offered by Cindy and realised he had a choice and say in his plan to return to employment.
“I told him about the support we could offer, including Wage Subsidies to employers and financial support for work related items.”
“I showed him that he could choose what jobs he could apply for, and we could support him if he needed.”
It wasn’t long before Gregory came to Cindy with an idea of an employer he would like to work for. A packing and cleaning supplies company as a delivery driver. He asked for support to approach the employer.
“I called employer he wanted to work for and offered a Wage Subsidy. The employer was happy to give Gregory a chance,” said Cindy
Cindy then supported and guided Gregory for the interview with the employer, and he was successful.
