Mychelle, at 52 years old, had spent the majority of the last 10 years caring for her sons as they made their way into adulthood. Despite her many skills, even having run her own small business previously, she was struggling to find work.
Mychelle knew of atWork Australia and their team of Dedicated Disability Job Coaches, through her oldest son who had also sought their support when he was looking for work. atWork Australia helped him to successfully apply for a Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship in early 2019.
Deciding it was time to return to the workforce herself, Mychelle called into the Bendigo office of atWork Australia and met up with Job Coach Pam.
Over several appointments, Pam and Mychelle worked together on her résumé, cover letters and interview skills, all the while, Pam knew the type of role that would suit Mychelle, and that was an office support role.
Pam was able to use her employer contacts to find a position for Mychelle, a part-time worker for their office.
She contacted Mike at The Green Clean Team and spoke to him about Mychelle. Pam sent through the application and arranged for Mychelle to attend an interview with Mike, in which she was successful in getting the role.
“I think Mychelle is the correct fit for our business and I am looking forward to seeing how she handles getting back into employment,” says Mike.
Mychelle called Pam as soon as she was offered the job and was so excited to be given the opportunity. She thanked Pam for having faith in her ability to the job, and for putting through the application.
“Mychelle will do very well at her job. She is enthusiastic and seems committed to doing the job justice,” Pam says.
