Good news from atWork Australia.

Workforce Australia client, Andrew*, was going through a hard time when he entered the atWork Australia office in Burnie, Tasmania. He was struggling to pay rent, manage his mental health and caring for his mother; all whilst going through a divorce. The last thing on his mind was employment and Job Coach, Laura, understood that.

After getting to know Andrew within his initial appointment, Laura utilised the flexibility of the Workforce Australia program the best suit Andrew and his current circumstances, to ensure that we were not adding to his list of stressors.

Laura understood how much of a hard time he was going through, not only by his words but through his body language and physical appearance. She suggested for him to attend our in-house Wellness Services, to access a range of wellbeing services that are free of cost.

These services allowed Andrew to open up about his feelings and current situation in a safe, comfortable setting. Andrew enjoyed being given the time and space to process what was happening in his life, prior to entering the workforce.

Once he felt more comfortable in knowing how to meet the requirements, Laura assisted with teaching Andrew how to report job searches and paid work hours.

Whilst he was attending his Wellness appointments and learning to navigate the Workforce Australia system, the pair also worked on creating the perfect resume to impress employers, whilst also sharpening his interview skills for when the time comes.

The perfect opportunity came around sooner than they thought, with an opening for a food service attendant.

After a successful interview with the employer, Andrew was offered this position. He was overjoyed.

Being back in work has both improved Andrew’s outlook on life and created a positive impact. Andrew feels like he has added purpose to his life.

As a result of the support shown from Laura and the broader atWork Australia team, Andrew has been able to come out of his shell more, and show the confidence in putting himself out there again.
