When Thomas (30) first started working with the Workforce Australia team in Eastgardens, NSW, he was very uninterested in support.
He had a loss of motivation, lack of self-esteem and no clear direction of his employment goals.
He often didn’t show up for his scheduled appointments, expressing personal issues in his life were affecting his mental health and self-confidence.
When his Job Coach was able to make contact, they suggested Thomas attend an internal Wellness Session for support with his mental health.
The Job Coach advised the Wellness Session would count towards his PBAS points so he could focus on his health and wellbeing first before he could be ready for work.
Thomas accepted this offer, and in the meantime his Job Coach also connected Thomas to an Indigenous Mentor called John, through our connection with the Indigenous Mentoring Support Services.
John began attending atWork Australia appointments with Thomas, providing him with extra culturally appropriate support, to help him navigate his barriers.
Over time, Thomas became motivated, and he gained a new goal of getting a job. So together atWork Australia, John, and Thomas, worked on updating his resume with his goal of an IT (Information Technology) position in mind.
Thomas has now landed an interview for an IT position. John is working closely with both atWork Australia and Thomas for the interview including interview practice and coaching.
atWork Australia was also able to financially support Thomas with an Opal top up and clothing for his interview.
