Nowra resident Gregory is entering his 2nd year employed with HMAS Albatross as an administrative assistant.
Gregory lives with Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Gout, Epilepsy and Connective Tissue Disease. Gregory also uses a scooter to travel around due to a mobility issue.
Due to this, 2 years ago, 51-year-old Gregory approached the atWork Australia Nowra office for support in finding work.
2 years on, Gregory has been working as an Administration Assistant at HMAS Albatross.
Kylie, a dedicated Job Coach from atWork Australia supported Gregory to prepare for finding work. Together, Gregory and Kylie did practice interviews, worked on building up Gregory’s confidence and self-assurance and applied for jobs.
Gregory’s motivation to work and self-confidence grew when he was offered an administration role at HMAS Albatross. HMAS Albatross are a part of the Royal Australian Navy, with HMAS Albatross being the largest operational naval establishment and the Navy’s only Air Station.
When the time to start work came, Gregory was anxious he would not be able to cope in his role. With support from atWork Australia, Gregory was able to adjust to a new work environment and started to feel more comfortable in his work environment.
Working with HMAS Albatross, Trevor, Gregory’s new Job Support Coach at atWork Australia has provided workplace adjustments to accommodate for Gregory’s individual needs. Gregory has especially benefited from a new chair and updated workstation.
The atWork Australia team have noticed Gregory’s resilience, especially lately when Gregory was impacted by the summer bushfires and lately due to COVID-19.
Gregory is happy in the HMAS Albatross team. With the team reflecting on Gregory, “Gregory is a valued employee of our organisation. He is also well respected by everyone.”
atWork Australia have enjoyed supporting Gregory over the past 2 years in his role. Trevor says that he has “really enjoyed working with Gregory, he is very friendly”
Gregory stated he feels comfortable talking to atWork Australia about anything, and he feels supported with the level of care atWork Australia have provided.
