Fay* came to atWork Australia extremely motivated and determined to find employment. However, at sixty-years-old, as well as multiple health and language barriers, she found it difficult to secure employment on her own. After two years of unemployment, she’d had enough and decided to connect with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Campbeltown, NSW, to fast track her journey back to employment.
Fay was introduced to her Job Coach, Ankita, and the pair began brainstorming suitable employment options. Together they decided that working in the hospitality industry could be a suitable option. Ankita worked with Fay to complete her job searches and targeted employers within the hospitality space.
In the background, Ankita continued cold calling employers, looking for opportunities and explaining to potential employers how atWork Australia supports their clients and employers through the process. Ankita’s efforts paid off, she found an employer who was willing to create a vacancy and give Fay an opportunity to return to work. Fay was incredibly happy when she was offered a new position as general worker in the hospitality industry.
In preparation to start her new job, Ankita supported Fay to obtain her Working with Children Check, Police check, NDIS check and her First Aid Certificate. Fay has been very grateful for the continuous support she has received from atWork Australia. Fay said, “I am really happy to be starting work and now have the ability to earn my own money.”
Fay’s Job Coach, Ankita, said, “Fay’s confidence continues to grow, she is now financially independent and able to provide better support for her family.”
