Roxburgh Park local and Disability Employment Services client, Hasan, has had a tough life.
He entered the atWork Australia office in Roxburgh Park, VIC, feeling upset and demotivated.
He shared with his Job Coach Cindy, that he has a 25-year-plus career as a baker and has owned two bakeries during his lifetime. His heart has always been with baking.
He was forced to shut his bakeries down because of cancer and ongoing deteriorating health conditions. He spent the next several years out of work, before re-entering the field.
However, this did not last for long as he did not enjoy the workplace, and was finding it difficult to perform his tasks. “I assured Hasan that we will find him a suitable and flexible job,” said Cindy.
Together, Cindy and Hasan, worked together to rebuild his confidence and his abilities, whilst also regaining his trust with employers. The pair spent the next several appointments working on this.
Once Hasan felt he was ready, they worked on building a resume that reflected his skills and love for the industry to attract potential employers.
Hasan expressed he was still interested in working in a Bakery, so this became Cindy’s goal.
After searching for positions that catered to Hasan and his health conditions, she decided to speak with a local Bakery. Cindy mentioned they were interested in meeting Hasan, and he was invited to an interview and a work trial. “He passed with flying colours,” said Cindy.
After hearing the great news, Hasan said, “It was like Christmas”. He was overjoyed to return to work in a position that he loved, very much.
Cindy and the atWork Australia team in Roxburgh Park continued to assist Hasan by providing financial assistance with work necessities.
Cindy states “Employment has brought back Hasan’s confidence to be back in the workforce. It’s given him a great work life balance, giving him enough time with his grandkids.”
