When Hayleigh first came to atWork Australia, she had not participated in paid employment for many years. Arguably, she had been undertaking the most important job, raising her children. As her children are growing up, Hayleigh decided it was time to return to work. She reached out to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Rasmussen, Townsville, QLD, for tailored support.
During the period while Hayleigh was raising her children, she had participated in some volunteer work in hospitality and completed Work for the Dole activities.
When Hayleigh met her Job Coach, Stacie, she disclosed she had not been successful in securing any retail positions, and ideally, she would like to find work within school hours, so she could still carry our her parenting duties.
Along with her parenting obligations, Hayleigh was also managing multiple health conditions, including; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, partial vision loss and hearing difficulties. Hayleigh is very determined not to let her health concerns impact her ability to work.
She is motivated by her desire to provide for her children. Hayleigh’s Job Coach, Stacie, said, “Hayleigh is a positive person, she has the skills and just needs some support to find the right position.”
Hayleigh was referred to atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement team, to tap into a broader network of employment opportunities.
The Employer Engagement team began advocating on Hayleigh’s behalf to a range of employers for various opportunities. Soon enough, Hayleigh was able to secure a position as a Retail Assistant. Hayleigh said she was very pleased that she was in the right place at the right time in order to get referred to this position.
