Sometimes in life, we come across incredible people and we say to ourselves, there needs to be more people like them, who are passionate about supporting their community. Murray and Julie are a perfect example of this.
Murray and Julie had been utilising Employment Services for many years whilst living in Sydney. For the past five years the pair have been living in the Illawarra, managing a charity, Food for Life Community Care. Food for Life is an non-profit organisation that provides food relief to Illawarra families by supplying affordable groceries. They continue to provide volunteering opportunities for atWork Australia clients to gain valuable work experience.
Over the past 18 months, since atWork Australia and Food for Life Community Care have been working together the relationship continues to grow. Murray and atWork Australia’s Activations Consultant, Shannon, have developed a strong working relationship. Like many great relationships, this one is made stronger by a friendly sporting rivalry. Murray has been so impressed with the voluntary workers who have come from atWork Australia, he has committed to only work with atWork Australia to provide opportunities for clients to gain valuable work experience. Murray said, “I have known Shannon for about 4 years. Shannon is great to deal with, friendly, approachable, and great to bounce ideas off, even for a Penrith Supporter! We have a brilliant working environment which is great for atWork Australia clients to gain work experience.”
atWork Australia Activations Consultant, Shannon, said, “I am so grateful I can continue developing this strong relationship. I feel that I have been able to offer Murray and Julie a great opportunity and give them some fantastic volunteers to assist them in the great work they do for the Illawarra, even though Murray is a Broncos supporter, we get along well.”
