A great display of teamwork creates an employment opportunity for Workforce Australia client, Judy*. Judy came to atWork Australia after an extended period of unemployment; she was a principal carer and she was lacking motivation and confidence to take the steps towards employment.
Judy was connected with atWork Australia Job Coach, Cynthia, at the Penrith office. Judy advised she was lacking confidence, that she gets very nervous in interviews, and was not sure of her employment goals. Cynthia believed Judy would benefit from participating in atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program. At this point, Judy was introduced to her Indigenous Connections Mentor.
Judy and her mentor began working together, slowly developing her confidence and creating a plan for how atWork Australia would support her to return to the workplace. Additionally, Cynthia supported Judy to enroll in a Certificate III in Hospitality, which aligned with her new employment goal of working in the hospitality industry.
With Judy’s new qualifications, she soon secured an interview. In preparation for her interview, both Cynthia and her mentor supported her with interview training and purchased new clothing, so she could feel confident and put her best foot forward during the interview. Judy was thrilled when she found out she had secured the job. For Judy, this was more than just a job, it was the start of a new chapter in her life.
Judy has been incredibly grateful for the support she has received from atWork Australia. It was her goal to return to work before Christmas, and she has achieved that. Judy said, “Jobs for the Mob gave me great insights into the process of securing work. Working with the facilitators and having a mentor has been great. It has given me the motivation to not want to give up.”
Judy continues to engage with the team, seeking guidance and advice as she progresses on her journey. Judy has made positive changes in her life and atWork Australia are delighted to be a part of her journey.
