Janet reached out to atWork Australia in Margate, Queensland. Here, she was connected with Job Coach Emma. Emma assisted Janet in registering with Centrelink. Further, Emma worked with Janet for her Blue and Yellow Card, Birth Certificate and Police Check applications.
Emma assisted Janet with Jobs Now sessions. This involved developing her resume, cover letter and job applications. From here, Janet was prepared to start applying for jobs and secured an interview for a Personal Carer role. Janet visited Job Coach Emma before her interview and Emma gave her tips to successfully prepare for the interview. Janet’s interview was successful, and she was offered the position the next day.
When Janet found out about the good news, she: “called Emma and was very excited.” Janet said that her Job Coach, Emma, was positive and friendly. She encouraged her to believe that she was not only capable but would also do really well and thrive. With Job Coach Emma, Janet felt like she is a real person, not just a number.
Emma says: “Janet has been in regular contact through her Post Placement Support phase, whether it be for a chat or assistance with her time and travel sheets. She discusses any issues she is experiencing during her employment. Such as, when she was taking on too much work and was feeling overwhelmed by it all. She didn’t know how to say ‘no’ to the extra hours she was offered, so I was able to help her with how she can approach her supervisor about this.”
Janet says: “To be able to work is healthy but working in a job you love is even better.”
Emma says: “Janet has gained so much confidence during this time, she has even referred someone to atWork Australia and has been bringing her in for her appointments and generally assisting her through the process as she had done for almost a year.”
