Three women, Jemima, Shumaila and Karishma stand arm in arm, quote reads "Jemima said she is grateful to be able to support her family, and is feeling better in her health and wellbeing.

Workforce Australia client, Jemima, was feeling a little stuck. As a young single mother in her 20s, she spent a lot of time at home, and had little work experience. With her caring responsibilities and lack of experience, she was feeling unmotivated to find employment.

Jemima started working with Job Coach Shumaila at the Mount Druitt office in NSW.  Together they co-designed a plan to support Jemima’s wellbeing and help her feel motivated and job-ready, before they started looking for employment.

Jemima was referred to external vocational counselling for support with her wellbeing, and Shumaila also referred her to our internal Powered by Positivum course.

During the week long course, clients participate in pre-employment training, such as practising interviews, our Positivum program to support resilience and wellbeing, and completing course work to gain micro-credentials in an industry.

Jemima learnt skills in how to handle food safely, work effectively in a service environment and how to contribute to work health and safety; skills she felt she could use in a variety of industries.

“By participating in the course, Jemima began to rebuild her confidence,” said Job Coach Shumaila.

Jemima said the support and encouragement she received from both Shumaila and her program facilitator, Karishma, motivated her to keep going.

“We could see Jemima’s resilience. She came out of her comfort zone and attended every session.”

Jemima was feeling independent and confident after the course and was ready for work.

Shumaila referred Jemima to a part time cleaning role within school hours, and she was successful in landing the role.

“Jemima said she is grateful to be able to support her family, and is feeling better in her health and wellbeing,” said Shumaila.

Jemima will continue to be supported by the atWork Australia team in her first few months in employment.
