Jessica started with ParentsNext in Victoria Park, WA, with a seven-month-old baby and anxiety about entering the workforce.
Before Jessica had become a mother, she was living with an addiction and she was anxious about entering the workforce, in a world that was unknown to her.
She started working with her Job Coach, Frances, who got to know Jessica. Together they looked at what made Jessica happy, what types of roles she might be suited to, and what she wanted to achieve in her life.
“When I first met Jessica, she was withdrawn and lacking in confidence,” said Frances.
“But she attended every appointment she could, and I could see her confidence building.”
Jessica enjoyed working with children and decided to pursue a career pathway as a swim instructor.
Not only was it something that Jessica thought she would enjoy doing, but the hours would be suitable for when her child began school.
Frances and the ParentsNext team assisted her to enroll in relevant training to allow her to reach her goal.
“She trained as a swim instructor and then did an extra course to teach babies,” said Frances.
“By having these qualifications, she was able to land a role as a swim instructor.”
“Employment has given me the opportunity to identify as being more than “just a mum”. Swim teaching works with school hours and I get to see kids achieve their goals, it makes me so happy to see them progress.”
