Michael started working with atWork Australia, Port Douglas QLD, when his health condition meant he could no longer continue in the industry he had been working in.
At 62, Michael was not up to date with technology and hadn’t looked for work in years. He was overwhelmed with the changes and requirements of job searching today.
Job Coach Angela enrolled Michael into atWork Australia’s Jobs Now program. The program helped Michael understand how to use online job search platforms, write a resume and cover letter, and learn how to apply for roles.
Michael was very determined to find employment and was open to new possibilities.
He started a Traffic Controller course to gain new qualifications in an industry suitable to his abilities and skills.
“Within weeks of starting with atWork Australia, I had gained meaningful employment,” said Michael.
Michael still visited atWork Australia to ask for help using his computer and phone to see his shifts and access his pay slips.
“Angela has consistently helped me throughout my employment especially with the use of computers and my phone,” said Michael.
However, for Michael it wasn’t all perfect from here. After almost a year with the Traffic Control company, Michael found his hours were becoming less and less.
He returned to atWork Australia and Job Coach Angela to ask for further support.
“There was a time where I was not working as much, so I came in and spoke with Angela who immediately asked if I would be happy to do some extra work within the Port Douglas area,“ said Michael.
“From this conversation I attended an open day with Mantra and was offered a public area position within a few days. I am now currently working both jobs and could not be happier.”
