Disability Employment Services client Gary, recently hit a milestone of six months in employment, which is a big achievement for Gary.
Prior to this, Gary had been working with Job Coach Olivia in the Peninsula atWork Australia office for a while.
He had been successful placed into seven roles but quickly fell out of work.
Gary lives with mental health and experiences anxiety and stress, which resulted in Gary removing himself from situations.
Overcoming the emotional aspect of not progressing in the roles he was successful for impacted his confidence to feel motivated to work, however with coaching and support from Job Coach Olivia, he was motivated to keep trying.
“I encouraged Gary to attend our Jobs Now session, which is a group style pre-employment training program,” said Olivia.
“While Gary had been successful applying, and interviewing for roles, he found benefit from participating with others who were experiencing similar anxiety issues. It helped him know he isn’t alone.”
Olivia worked closely with Gary to understand what his dream job would be, in the hopes this would help motivate him to work through his anxiety.
Gary expressed he was interested in becoming a Truck Driver.
While the team worked towards finding Gary a suitable role, they also looked at further coping strategies he could implement when his anxiety was triggered.
They also supported him with essential cards for food, clothing, and tickets for training and certification.
Gary landed a role as a Truck Driver and has maintained his employment.
“I am so proud of Gary for reaching six months in employment! I was determined to help him as much as possible because I knew how much it meant to him.”
Gary has since proposed to his partner and has started working on his financial goals as well as his own personal goals to enjoy new hobbies.
