A young musician from inner Brisbane, Jordan was referred to atWork Australia after seriously injuring his elbow which left him unable to work.
Jordan was performing soloist gigs occasionally and had held a number of casual roles but struggled to find sustainable work he could fit around his medical appointments and rehabilitation.
Jordan was introduced to Disability Employment Services Job Coach, Sarah, in the Moorooka office, who was immediately impressed with Jordan’s inspirational personality.
“Jordan was bubbly, outgoing and never let stress get the better of him,” Sarah says.
Sarah felt that with Jordan’s positive body language and quiet disposition he would be perfectly suited to a role in crowd control.
Sarah put the suggestion to Jordan who jumped at the opportunity. Through atWork Australia, Jordan was able to complete a Certificate III in Security Operations which lead to him to obtaining his Government-issued, Crowd Controllers Licence.
On completion of the required training, Jordan successfully applied for a position with a local Security company. It was the first time this employer had used an employment service before and were very happy to have found Jordan.
The local security company are so impressed with Jordan they say they will always be happy to help job seekers back into the workforce, no matter their barrier, and have a dedicated team to help support employees.
Jordan has been working in crowd control for over two months and loves having permanent work. He is also incredibly thankful to Sarah and atWork Australia for the opportunity.
“When I came to my first appointment, I didn’t really have a direction for what kind of work I wanted. I only wanted to heal my arm and continue my music. However, Sarah recognised traits in me that she thought would suit the security industry.” Jordan says.
He adds, “Thanks to atWork Australia, I now have my security licence and Sarah was able to find me a job that fits perfectly with my current routine. I have learned a lot from Sarah.”
