Jose came to atWork Australia’s Chermside, QLD office after being unemployed for two years. With previous experience at the Salvation Army, his job goals had expanded towards working in warehousing.
Unfortunately, a lack of relevant experience and knowledge, was a barrier towards Jose gaining employment within this field.
With the aim to fill his knowledge gap, Jose and his Disability Employment Services (DES) Job Coach Andrea, researched possible suitable qualifications. They selected a Certificate 3 in Logistics, an entry-level course for gaining practical skills for work in the transport and logistics industry.
While initially apprehensive about returning to study, with Andrea’s encouraging support, Jose passed the course with flying colours.
Andrea reports that Jose’s confidence and job prospects have increased and is keen to continue working towards finding the right role for him.
While searching for fork-lift work, Jose has positively been contacted by an employer who’s committed to calling him back when more work is available.
“I feel that my chances of securing work are now higher than before,” says Jose. “I have a qualification that applies to the roles I am applying for so I’m optimistic for my future.”
